Need to change the rear wheelseal on a 1988 dodge 50?

Had the axle out and all that went to pull the bearing of the axle the book says there is a plate needed to pull it with or you can make your own I made one and it bent it Imade it twice as thick and it bent again its on there any sugestions thanks Jeff.

  1. i think they was talking about a press plate on that one,you may have to press that bearing off,its been a while since i have worked on one of those but i think they had press on bearings,heating the bearing will help to remove it with the right press plate,good luck.


  2. You normally need a press ( or pull in this case ) to remove those. Are you sure there's no pin in the differential holding that shaft in? Usually hitting it with a soft mallet will get the shaft out. Why do you need to pull the axle to change the seal? Isn't it in the backing plate? Do you mean the bearing?
