I am getting ready to start playing in a club solo. Playing mostly rock music, then some ballads etc... Now, I am currenly in a moment where I want to by new guitar and I need to choose acoustic or electric. Usually when it's one man show people choose to play acoustic in a club, but I would prefer buying new electric guitar and play with it. Is it unusual to play electric as a one man in club, and is acoustic better sounding choice for that kind of gig. What do you think: should I buy acoustic or electric for playing in that club? Tnx

  1. if u are a good singer, then acoustic...if u need the electric to cover up a "not so good" tune, then electric...personally, i think electric would be too imposing unless there was a dance floor

  2. It all depends on whether you want to show your skill at playing coloration's and setting moods with your skill to modulate the tones and the amplitude on your Acoustic Guitar... or just BANG EVERYTHING OUT AT THE SAME LEVEL like you do with an Electric Guitar.

I DO NOT play an Electric guitar and have refused to ever play an electric guitar because you can't get the subtle tones on one of those axes that you can with even a cheap acoustic guitar.  If you are playing solos in small rooms... you can very quickly make them very tired of listening to your it's-all-the-same-level Electric guitar.

I have a keyboard that has both a Midi interface AND I can upload my backup music OFF THE HARD DRIVE or from the internal memory which is enough to handle 30 songs of 5 minutes each and which I can enter directly from the keyboard... so I can take my Acoustic or Classical guitars and my Keyboard and sound like a whole orchestra... TRY THAT WITH YOUR ELECTRIC GUITAR.

  3. I'd suggest an acoustic......they have great microphones today so there will be no problem with being heard.....I've been teaching acoustic and classical for years, and to me the acoustic sounds much better if you going to be singing as a solo performer. If you have trouble making up your mind try out the acoustic electric.....some of those have a really great sound, and depending on the song you could use both.... they make them a lot better today then they did years ago !!!!! Well good luck with your career !!!!!!!!

  4. acoustic

  5. I have an electric, acoustic and classic acoustic. I think acoustic sounds the best as a solo gig because they are easier to get across feeling and emotion without any back beat. Electric guitars usually need some electric guitar friends to sound amazing (if you know what I man). But, my ex used to play electric alone, it sounded amazing, but I always could picture what it would sound like if it had another player....and my other friend also played electric and ...the same thing happened like i would always imagine the song if it had another player and a drummer. Acoustic can sound just fine on it's own so I would go acoustic, and then maybe if you get popular you could bounce it up to electric and say you are looking for a gig partner even!
