how do I clear a sink drain... with non toxic substances for the environment? I tried baking soda and vinegar it really did not work.

Is there any other way before I dump horrible chemicals in our drinking water?

  1. bring in the garden hose, get someone to turn on full bore, the pressure should blast away the blockage, when that succeeds clean out with ammonia ,that will cut away the grease , then every week or so so use white vinegar just as a maintenance chore

  2. Start 'snakin'

  3. i think the suggestions above to use a metal 'snake' are probably the greenest. then use soda crystals as part of regular maintenance. but i have been told that if the drain is already blocked then soda crystals are not a good idea as they can solidify in the pipes - not sure if this is true.

  4. If the clog is in your trap, you can take the trap apart (put a bucket under it) and clean it out by hand. If the clog goes further down, you'll have to run a plumber's snake down the line.

  5. Use Lye.

It's strong, effective, and completely biodegradable.

(It used to be made from wood ash).

It is dangerous though. Follow cautions on the container.

Sometimes you can be too green.

  6. snake it

    try boiling water

    lye
