  1. Definitely early intervention or autism spectrum disorders in early childhood

  2. fetal alcohol syndrome

    SIDS

daycare vs. stay at home moms

how early you need to enroll an infant into a good preschool program

  3. spanking vs. time-outs

    daycare vs. home daycare

    working moms vs. stay-at-home moms

    preschool or no preschool

    secular preschool vs. Christian preschool

    immunizations

  4. How terrible some day cares can be...abuse (of varying degrees), neglect, and other horrible/ detrimental affects on children. The news is always covering bad nannies, but what about the place where most parents leave their children during the day? Its very interesting to look into...you might even be able to observe at a local daycare--you'll learn more than you'd ever want to know. I used to work at a daycare...I never want to see children in that environment again-- there were many reports filed...

  5. Vaccinations and autism is a big  one right now.  I live close to the Austin area and we have a large group of women that are refusing to vaccinate their children because of possible autism links.  We have many more deaths from preventable diseases down here because of it.  Another great topic would be a study on deaths/injuries/accidents etc from parents leaving infants or toddlers in the car (even if the car is running).  You would be surprised how often this happens and the large number of injuries and deaths that result from it.  Another great topic is common children's foods that are extreme choking hazards or dangers to infants and toddlers and how many parents and care givers are unaware of the dangers...for example, grapes, honey, hot dogs, peanut butter, coffee or tea (which result in a number of burns every year from a caregiver spilling on an infant/toddler), coin cut carrots that are under cooked, etc.  (Did you know that if it can fit inside a toilet paper tube then it is a choking hazard for the child?  Most parents don't know that!)   Or, you could tackle the topic of co-sleeping which is a VERY emotionally charged topic right now.  You could easily cover the 3-5 pages necessary with that one!!!!!

Just thought of another one...childhoos immune systems of children in daycare settings versus those in the home setting.  How many illness per year, severity of the illnesses, etc.

    Good luck!

  6. *The affect of children being raised by adolescents

    * Divorce and children

    * The three types of parenting styles and children's affect (permissive, authoritative and authoritarian)

  7. Look at "primary caregiver" models and models that keep children in day care in the same room for at least 18 months vs. models that move them every few months.

  8. Nature vs nurture

    daycare vs staying home

children born drug addicted and how it affects development

Not real sure what you mean by hot topic though, if you could clarify a little I might be able to give you more ideas

  9. is day care harmful for babies and toddlers?

  10. Child Health: Childhood Obesity is probably the hottest topic at the moment and sadly will continue to be for the fore see-able future. Topics: Nutrition and human development, food production and processing, the daycare diet; is it really good for children? The role of childcare professionals in health promotion/ education.

  11. How about one on using sign language with infants and Todd's.  It's been a big story lately and you could probably get some input from parents who use it, centers that use it, ones that don't and why.  You could also include pics of the most commonly used signed with infants.
