I registered for 2 classes fall semester (school start this week) and financial aid already paid full tuition and I even get some refunds back (about $1000). Now, due to some personal reason, I want to drop those classes and go to a community college. (I also applied FAFSA to community college, just need to get the paper work done). so I am just wondering if I will need to return the refund and to who? and where would those financial aid money go? Does that mean I will have to pay for double loan ( one from university and one from community college) in the future?

also, I am planning to go back to University in the Spring semester and using financial aid.

  1. You're going to need to contact the financial office at the university immediately, and notify them that you intend to withdraw from the school this semester.

You really, really, really need to do this immediately, because otherwise you run the risk of having to refund money out of your own pocket. You already know that you are going to have to return the $1000 "overpayment".

If you contact the financial aid office right away, they will be able to get everything squared away so that some, or all of the financial aid funds that you were offered can be transferred to your new school. Now is the time to tell them that you hope to transfer back in the Spring semester, so they can smooth the way for that complication, as well.

Good luck to you - but I can't encourage you enough to get on the phone with financial aid (or better yet, stop by) first thing tomorrow morning. Yes, the lines will be long, but you really need to get this sorted out quickly.

  2. Your best bet would be to finish the fall classes then go to community college; dropping classes could effect your grade point av and your money for next semester. Talk to FA before you drop!
