Need to fill cat scratches in wood!?!

So my cat decided to use the corner of a doorway to sharpen her claws and I am moving in a month. I need to know what would work best to fill in these scratch marks. Then i will sand it and paint it. The door has like a wood boarder around it and that is what is clawed up and it has detailed grooves in it.. someone pls help i want my damage deposit back..

  1. Buy some wood glue and get one that dries at a slow rate like Titebond 3 and bush it in too the grooves and then sand the wood while the glue is still tacky and it will fill the grooves with the sanding dust and act as a putty and then when it is completely dry sand to finish and paint!I would recomend using a power sander, palm sander if you have one,or vibratory sander! This will cover well with paint!Use 80grit sandpaper,and finish with 120! If the grooves are very deep you will need filler,and since you are painting it don't worry about matching color or any of that!The glue trick is a quick fix not the best choice for the repair but its cheap and easy and will get you out of a costly fix up!


  2. If the door is wood try using wood filler putty if it is a composite material use joint compound. Both are sandable and paintable.

  3. Go to your local cabinet shop. They have pens that are the same tint as different colors of wood. That would be your easiest and cheapest (time and monetary) way to take care of it.
