  3. If you're in the UK, dial International Directory Enquiries. I think its number is 153. When UK Directory Enquiries was opened to competition I believe that BT retained its monopoly on the international version.

  4. The 153 international directory number mentioned is no longer in service.  This has been opened up to competition the same as U.K. directory inquiries.   The number for BT is 118 505, but you definitely do NOT want to call it, as the charges are currently 69p. connection plus £1.99 per minute or part thereof!

If you are unable to find your number through a website and want to call for help, simply dial the appropriate directory assistance service in the U.S. direct.  It will cost you the same as any regular call to the U.S.A., but that will be MUCH cheaper than using one of the 118 x*x services, especially if you are using a cheap alternate carrier.

Simply look up the area code for the place you want to inquire about, then make a normal international call to 00-1-x*x-555-1212, where "x*x" is the area code.

  5. whitepages.com, infospace.com, etc.  Tons of places! :)

  6. White Pages (person) or Yellow Pages (business)
