Question:

Need to find a tax preparer who will work with me on the phone?

I had to move abroad in february and my old tax preparer told me he will do my taxes and filed an extention (without my approval), and now told me he changed his mind. I can not return to Ohio at this time but need somebody to do my taxes. I have rentals and don't think I can do this on my own with TurboTax. Can anybody recommend a reliable tax person in Ohio that would work with me long distance? Please help.

  1. At this time of year, (non-tax season), the major tax preparation firms are staffed with their better preparers.

So, H&R Block is good, Jackson Hewitt is OK, Liberty cannot say, no experience, local accounting and tax preparation firms good to OK, etc.

Just find an office that's open, anywhere in the country, and they can do your taxes for you, even Ohio taxes. Bring last year's return, if you have it.

    Included H&R Block's website. http://www.hrblock.com/universal/office_...

  2. I would go to H&R Block's web site http://www.hrblock.com/ and use their office finder.  Punch in the zip code of the part of Ohio that you are interested in and look for either an office open year around (usually the city's district office) or a Premium office (which are open year around too because they do business returns and payrolls and tougher things like representing clients in audits during the off-season).

  3. They'd need your paperwork, but the other preparer could send that to them.  And you'd still have to sign the return, so the preparer would have to send you something to sign and mail in - they could probably fax it to you.
