  1. go and see the local council or cab office they will put you on the right track

  2. Try this link... and get yourself to the local housing office and ask for an application form and an interview... if you're new to England, they'll fall over to help you.

Sadly, if you're a Brit... I don't rate your chances before immigrants are housed... I'm speaking from experience when my house went from under me and left me and my then 16 year old son homeless on divorce! They wouldn't consider us together and it was a five year wait for me, as opposed to immediate housing for immigrants... wrong ennit, no wonder there's unrest in the lower ranks:-(

I'm the most outspoken person against racism and am always being told off by friends and family for 'siding' with newcomers, because I empathise with both sides.

It's just that, finding out first hand that my own town put me and my son last, was quite unnerving... and extremely hurtful to me at the time!

ps... I'm disabled with arthritis and my son has Asperger's Syndrome and that didn't make a jot of difference either!

  3. If you claim you are homeless and it is through no fault of your own and you or a member of your household are in a priority group (e.g. pregnant, dependent children, elderly, disabled, etc) then you need to contact your local Council and they have a duty to find you accommodation. Of course they may decide that you are not homeless or have made yourself homeless intentionally in which case they are unlikely to help.

  4. You can speak to Shelter on 0808 800 4444 or go onto www.shelter.org.uk These are the leading people who deal with re-homing homeless people. They are also a charity so they can sign post you wherever you need to go.

You can also speak to the local housing associations, they have to do eveything in there power to re-house homeless people, even if it is only temporary until you can find somewhere

permanent. You may be placed in a hostel which means you get your own room, but all other facilites are shared, this is usually for 6 months until they can find a flat or small house.

    Best of luck to you!
