If I sign a lease for 1yr and obviously I am stuck here for a yr what is really the point of giving a 60 day notice??? Now if I do month to month after the lease is up do I still have to give 60 day notice??

  1. Yes, you would still need to give 60 days notice.  While the duration of the lease has expired, the terms and rules of the lease stay in place.

  2. you would still have to give a 60 day notice or you can work something out with them to make it a 30 or 40 day notice.

  3. The 60 day notice lets the landlord know you are moving so that they will know what is going to be available to lease-out and purchase necessary supplies to turn the unit.  In most cases a month to month lease only requires a 30 day notice however you need to check with landlord to make sure also don't be surprised if the landlord charges more for month to month.
