My younger sister is 12 years old and moved into my house when my parents moved to Maine and she wanted to stay here. The truth is, she's a slob and she can't clean or orginize it and/or keep it neat. My husband and I helped her clean and redo her room when i got pregnant with my daughter. I'm now pregnant with baby #2 and i want to get her room clean and orginized and does anyone know how to keep it nice?? She lives in the basement so bugs cling to her room and she only eats in there when she has friends over. Her room is also really small and pretty childish. How can we clean everything up and get it really orginized?? My sister thinks the main reason is her neice who is almost 3, but my daughter lost the key to her room so we can't lock the door! HELP!!

  1. You can get all kinds of drawers and boxes and shelves. i love the ones that you can put colored storage cubes into. and then...you have to set rules. The room is to be cleaned ___ times a week. Or everynight before bed. And vaccumed every __ day.And stick to it.

  2. I find that a lot of the reason my room used to get so cluttered and messy was because I had things in my room I never used. When I was 12, I had a flat desk in my room 'for my homework,' but to be honest, all it did was take up room and collect clutter. Shelves would have been much more useful in its place.

Also, I was a packrat (still am, but getting better.) I kept stuffed animals forever. I never slept with them, but I had to kept them. It would have cleaned my room up just to get rid of them.

Child proof doorknob covers could help keep little hands from sorting everything and putting it back on the floor. (Assuming that's what's happening.)

Also, your sister might just need some motivation. For me, I find it easier to keep a room clean if the room was clean recently. Music could help the process along as well. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  3. try organizing by putting everything into containers on a bookshelf or try under the bed storage boxes.  try closet storage to maximize room. you can also get a new doorknob for pretty cheap to take care of the lock issue or even put a hook at the top on the outside to latch when the 3 year old is there.
