Ok, so I'm going to be getting highlights in my dark brown, medium length hair pretty soon. And i just have like a bunch of questions, because I've never dyed my hair or anything before. So if you have answers to any of these questions I'd appreciate hearing them =). thanks!! <3

-How long will highlights last before your roots start to show

-Are foil or cap highlights better

-What color highlights would look good in like a chesnut brown hair color

-When highlights start to grow out, can I just get them redone in the same color or touched up?

-& anything else about your experiences w/ having highlights done and the results & everything =)

  1. For a dark brown hair tone i would recommend honey highlights.

nothing too dramatic. foil highlights allow more coverage. [in my opinion] and it usually about 6 weeks until you need a retouch but depends on how fast your hair grow. and once its time for a retouch you will just need to retouch the re-growth.

  2. well i have them and they lsat like the whole summer for me and the look amzing

  3. i would say a couple shades lighter, careful not to go light and avoid shades of blond all together, otherwise you will just look like a skunk

  4. Your roots will start to really show about 6 weeks after getting it done. I like foils personally b/c it's easier to apply to roots only later, but they are typically more expensive. Darker blonde warm toned highlights would look best on chestnut hair. If your stylist is going to be using bleach, make sure you tell her you don't want your hair too blonde. Your hair may come up very fast, or very slow depending on your texture, your stylist will be able to determine this.

  5. ok 1st of all when u get highlights they last a really long time depending on how well their done. i've had highlight for about 3 years now. cap highlights work better if u ask me...that's kind of an opinion thing. for your hair color u should get like a copper color. that's what color i got in my hair and it's the same color as yours. it looked really good also. once they grow out (though it may take awhile) u can get them redone or touched up whatever your choose. well u should look great! good luck! =)

  6. Hi! Hair normally grows about 1/2 inch each month. So depending on how drastic your highlights are, your roots will probably be showing in about 4 weeks. Usually you are supposed to get your hair trimmed/touched up every 6 weeks. It gets expensive!! Foil highlights are better because the colorist can actually get right into the roots with the color. With the cap, there is a bit of a gap between the cap and your scalp, so the highlights won't start right at the root. You should be able to just get your roots touched up when you go back the second time. I think a color like Caramel would look nice in your color hair. My experience with highlights (I have medium-dark brown hair) is that they never last long enough and I always regret getting them. Because if you want to get rid of them, you have to dye over your hair, and once you have dyed parts of it lighter than the rest, those parts will never stay as dark as the rest of your hair, even when you color over them in the future. They will always lighten back up, except at the root! I always think highlights look great on other people, but they are too much of a hassle for me. I wish I had never started dying my hair! You are so lucky to have virgin hair :) Good luck with everything!
