I have a great friend who has a boyfriend and they want a child. I lost my uterus to cervical cancer almost 2 years ago but still have my ovaries, I know they can extract eggs and his sperm, now we just need a uterus. Is there a lot of legal stuff if we have to find a surrogate? I'm trying the friend avenue first, but not sure how to ask, I've had offers to carry a child for me, but this will be a little different. I'll have very little contact with the child. Does anyone know how long the whole process takes from hormones-egg harvesting-implantation? Thanks

  1. Wow, I know you will have to do legal stuff, and it will cost money and take time for all the medical aspects, and I don't know a whole lot about it, but kudos to you for helping them out!

  2. Depends were you live - re legal implications and protecting everyones interest,

In australia it takes 3 months counselling etc then you need to have your cycle timed with the surrogate.

The time it takes from starting drugs to egg retrieval is about 3 weeks.

It will then be at least a further two weeks until you know whether the person is pregnant.

  3. As above, I don't really know...but I had to tell you what a wonderful person you sound, not only to be helping them, but being prepared to have another lady carry for you.  You sound amazing and I hope you get loads of luck through the whole process.

Congrats to you for coming through the cancer.
