  1. 1. Reconstitute dry milk. Two cups of dry milk to to 7 cups of water.

    2. Heat milk to to 120 degrees Fahrenheit

    3. Add 4 Tablespoons of yogurt with live culture.

    4. Let the milk incubate in a warm place near 100 degrees Fahrenheit to ferment for about 8 hours

    5. You have just made the yogurt. Put in Refrigerator for about 4 hours.

    6. Whisk yogurt. Now you have Buttermilk.

  2. This is the recipe my Grandma used on the farm.

Make the milk according to package directions.

    Ingredients

    1 cup milk

    1 tablespoon white vinegar

    Directions

1 Combine ingredients and let stand 5 minutes.

2 After 5 minutes, mix together well and use as buttermilk in any recipe!

You can also use fresh milk with this recipe.

  3. You can make your own buttermilk at home, from reconstituted powdered milk. You will need commercial buttermilk as a starter. Mix up a quart of reconstituted milk by combining 3 3/4-cup water with 1 1/3 cups dry milk powder. Add 1/2 cup of fresh buttermilk, purchased from the store. Allow it to sit on the counter overnight. In the morning it will be buttermilk. Really, it's that easy.

for regular milk a popular sub is Pour 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, or a simple vinegar such as rice, cider, or distilled white, into a glass measuring cup. Fill to the 1-cup mark with milk. Stir, let the mixture stand a minute or two, then proceed with the recipe. (For 2/3 or 3/4 cup milk use 2 teaspoons of lemon juice or vinegar.)

you may be able to do that, subbing the regular milk for your reconstituted powdered milk, not sure about that though.
