You really don't need anything fancy to get the job done. I've used a little bottle in a pinch, or any other small spouted container that will help channel the salinated water into your nasal passages. As far as making one yourself, I think you can get a good enough look on line to be able to construct your own out of clay - provided you have access to these materials and a kiln.
