Need to know what type of specs to look for on a video camera?!?

I'm looking to purchase a digitial video camera that I will eventually use to create home movies that will be played on a large screen. I have no idea what type of specs that I need to look for when shopping. Any suggestions?

Largest amount of mega pixels and an optical zoom

look for:

16:9 widescreen

3ccd or cmos

external mic inputs (3.5 minimum of preferred XLR)

mini dv (still better than HDD, Flash and aweful DVD)

seperate audio controls a bonus

shutter, iris controls etc a must.

if going with HDV (hi def) find one that does HDMI out. it'll look fantastic on big screen.
