  1. Rotavirus is mainly transmitted via the fecal-oral route, and is treated with liquids to prevent dehydration.  It's NOT necessary in my opinion to vaccinate against it.  Keep your baby clean, wash your hands after diaper changes, and if it happens anyway, push fluids and watch for signs of dehydration.  It's not as big of a deal as people make it!

  2. Almost all babies got rotavirus before the vaccine came out a few years ago.  Do you remember it being a big, scary disease that everyone worried about?  No.

It causes smelly diarrhea, and babies get over it.

You can easily cross that vaccine off your list.

By the way, it is a live vaccine, taken orally.  How gross is that?  A live diarrhea vaccine, taken by mouth? :-)  I'm being silly here, it's not like they are actually eating p**p, but still....

Because it is a live vaccine, it often actually gives the disease to your baby.  Why would you purposely give your baby rotavirus at such a young age?  If you don't give the vaccine, she/he will probably get rotavirus, but hopefully later than 4 months old.

The rotavirus vaccine can cause intussusception, which is life-threatening.  Why would you want to risk your baby's life with the vaccine, in order to avoid a case of diarrhea?

  3. It is important to get. My lil brother and another kid I know almost died from the virus when they were little. And yes while you can keep yourself clean can you really trust that others washed their hands properly?

  4. yes its quite important because it helps prevent a gastrointentional infection. It is given in liquid form.
