I have perfected my back hand to the point where my coach cannot return it, but my serve is a little weak. Any advice?

  1. Is your toss consistent? Trust me that toss is sooo important. If you can toss that ball and regularly get it to fall at the point you want, your serve will improve dramatically.

Make sure you use a continental grip. Look it up on google if you don't know what grip that is.

Next is are you tossing the ball a little in front of you? Say a ft or 2? If it's going a little behind you, you can't get your entire body weight into the serve. You'll be using just you hand to get that ball into the box.

Are you jumping up a little and hitting the ball at the height o your reach? That is very important too as it gives u the best angle down into the court.

Lastly, are you snapping the wrist? That's important too to get the ball down into the service box.

  2. really love TITB suggestions on your question :)

    - tossing a bit to the front will make you "go" for it. you will want to turn your body from sideway stance to facing the net. this gives you more power.

    - forward swing must be very quickly performed and timed to impact at the apex of the ball (when it reaches its highest point). the ball will lose all kinetic and potential energy at this point - only your swing power exist. the only force against you is the thin air resistance. no need to learn newtonian physics about this :)

    - snapping the wrist closely relates with the continental grip. it is the grip that enables you snap the wrist most easily. the forward swing goes like this: swing forward, starting with side of your racquet facing the ball - continue swing forward until about a bit behind the ball - pronate your hand and wrist so that the stringbed facing the ball - snap the wrist downward - impact - follow through.

just be careful not to be overdoing it. otherwise you will need to see the doctor. oh well, it worths your best serve, doesn't it?
