  1. Did you check the foundation center? It is a great place to start when it comes to raising money for non-for-profit and other humanitarian projects. Here is the website:

    http://foundationcenter.org/

they are based in New York city

You should also check the American Anthropological Association at: http://www.aaanet.org/

Have you thought about making a PSA (Public Service Announcement) TV, film, video, image are great media to work with when it comes to touch an audience. Also, it is rather possible to meet aspiring filmmakers who are willing to donate time, equipment, knowledge for a worth while cause. Good Luck

  2. I agree, the prom thing is a great idea!  I also found a company that can raise money for any organization that needs it.  They basically give out free memberships to their online shopping mall where the organization in question receives commissions on  everything the shoppers are buying anyway, and they are working on partnering with major grocery stores all across the country so that each person can save money on food shopping while helping raise money for the sponsoring organization.  The site explains it much better than I can.

  3. Car washes are fun.  Its a great thing to do in the summer.  Wetness is gaurenteed :)

Also, going door to door selling chocolates, candles, magazines.  Its a bit tedious and embarrassing sometimes, but its easy way to make money.

If your up for the task, you could organize a little fair.  Hire a band, set up concession.  Have little carnival games for the kiddies.  You could charge for admission and food and also ask guests for donations.  It would be tricky, but profitable.  Probably even attract media, which would raise awareness about your cause.

Whatever it is you decide to do, good luck :)

  4. dude what charity what resources do you have (volunteers, media contacts, any people with special skills, potential donors) looking at what you have and what you need should be the starting point

  5. i have this genious idea, (or what i think is genious)

    PROM TO SUPPORT CHARITY!!

sell tickets and have a prom!! some people never went to prom and some people regret prom, it is sooo fun to dress up and go dancing anyways!! have a photographer donate his time to take "prom pictures" get the venue donated and offer advertisment on the walls of the venue for those who donate!!  put this event in the local paper or news station...... i think its great

  6. all the above ideas are good, here's more.

    * make a website (it can be simple) where you present your ideas for the charity in a way that's organized. You can even put a donation link through Paypal on it, quite easy really. It can be on a free website (there are many of those). Have your email address and other contact information on it of course. You will want a hit counter too. Pictures and testimonials always speak loads to people who are interested in helping those who need it.

    * take info from the website (text and pictures) and make a simple flyer. Put your web address on the flyer, you can also put contact information on it. Find other ways to draw attention to your website (search engines, radio spots, links on the websites of other charitable organizations, ...).

    * another key factor is getting people to believe in what you say and that you're really doing charity. You may want to ask some questions from those who already work in charitable institutions about this. Maybe they can give you an endorsement, short of you're needing to go through the whole "9-yards" of legal organization.

    Hope it's helpful.   :-)

(I'm trying to include links to free sites and counters, can't because of the dreaded Error-999! Email me if you want them.)

  7. I LOVE that prom idea.  I wish somebody would do that, I love to get dressed up and go out.  The usual standbys are bake sale and car wash.
