Need to reactivate a sprint phone with money owed on account HELP?

I just bought a sprint phone from someone and they owed money on their sprint account. I want to reactivate it but was told i couldnt because there is a balance still on her account. is this true or is there a way around it? if so please help. I heard metropcs will activate any phone. Is this true?

Call Sprint customer care or E-mail them. Ask what the steps are for trying to get your phone activated when someone had a previous balance on the phone. Metro PCS can only accept phones if the phone is unlocked & works on CDMA network too.
