Need to remove sheet rock from wooden doors?

The people that put the new ceiling up splatterd sheetrock it is all over two doors of this rentle home Im cleaning. It has been on there for months. Is there a way to get it off with out messing up the color on the wood. Help

  1. I think warm water would work.  I'd try to just use water at first with no soap or anything because then you'll have to clean off the soap.  If it's a thicker coating, you can try a plastic putty knife or something to help scrape off the heavy stuff without scratchign the wood on the door.

    Try a thick sponge and/or a spray bottle.  Give it time and let the warm water sit for a minute or two before you try to start removing the stuff from the door.


  2. Should come off with soap and water if you are talking about sheetrock joint compound.

  3. Drywall compound is water soluble.  A damp kitchen sponge can be used to gently 'sand' the compound off.  If the door was painted prior to the splatter, wait at least 2 weeks for the new paint to dry before attempting to remove compound, or the paint will wipe off too.
