Today we got a eastern box turtle outside because someone put it out; so we took it in and bought a tank; a UV heat light or whatever you call it; some forest floor bedding and bark from a tree; & a rock bathing or whatever thing. That all added up to 200 dollars; now we put the turtle in the tank and put lettuce & live mealworms for him to eat; but now he won't come out of one spot; he is not wild but he struggles to get out of the tank and dig a spot in the left side like he wants to get out; is there anything to do?

  1. They will try to get out at first, but they realize that they can't. Search up Eastern Box turtle Care sheet. Tells you everything you need to know. For the staying in one place,,,,,,,He is in shock. He is watching out for preditors for a couple of days and then he'll be active.

  2. its better if you cover the sides of the tank with background decoration paper because it thinks he could escape through the glass because its clear also he stays in one spot because he is scared because its his first time at your house

  3. he is in shock right now. give it a day or two, he will calm down and get used to his new habitat.

  4. you might have the area too hot. he's trying to get away from it.

  5. sweetie just give your turtle some time to adjust to its new surroundings, it is nervous as it has been taken from what it is used to, box turtles should not really be kept in tanks, an out door enclosure is much better for it, here is a link to a box turtle care sheet that might be able to help you   http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs... don't panic too much at the moment your turtle just needs to get used to you and it's new environment, give it a few days i am sure it will settle down, best of luck with the new turtle
