  1. Heat rises.  So create a vent to the attic.  That gives the hot air a place to go.

Fans just move the hot air around when you are upstairs.

  2. fan fan fan... my upstairs is soooooo hot..... and i hate running the ac because its so expensive..... i open the windows and blast the fans... try to keep the shades drawn..

  3. I got a Vornado fan and it works awesome for circulating air and keepin my room cold.

  4. close all the other vents in the house except the ones in that room...it will force as much air as it can to that room and cool it off

  5. There's no really effective natural way to keep a two-storey cool like with A/C, but here's a way to keep it quite a few degrees cooler than outside: keep all the windows and doors (screens) in your house closed with all blinds down/curtains closed as well. A ceiling fan set to draw air from floor level will also draw cooler air from the lower levels of the house. In addition, open your basement door and place a portable fan in the doorway to draw cooler air from the basement. This works for us; best option I've found as we don't have much cause for A/C in our area. Hope it helps!

  6. Close vents in rooms that you do not commonly use this will increase your (airflow/static pressure) in other areas of the home.If this doesnt work you can completely shut all the vents off in the downstairs ,remember that cold air will fall back downstairs but I still recommend keeping atleast the living room register/vent open.

  7. try installing a whirley bird  in the attic it will get alot of the hot air out which will let the room cool off............the whirley bird cost $25/35 for a cheap one if you have a big house install 2 it  has really made a difference in our light bill  ....... they are quite easy to install or have installed also install  fans in all the rooms you can get some basic ones at walmart for $13/25  also check for leaks in your windows and check the insulation in your attic and walls all of these measures should get you cooler upstairs and save you about 100.00 a month on the electric bill      good luck

  8. I have the same issue.  Maybe installing a ceiling fan in the room to circulate the air?
