  1. Well, most of my taste leans towards things with an Asian/Eastern influence.

The only non-Eastern style/influenced recomendation I can think of is the Native American flute of R. Carlos Nakai.

He has quite a few albums, but a favorite of mine is "Emergence"  http://www.amazon.com/Emergence-R-Carlos...

If you like Indian (India, not Native American) style mantra/chanting, you may like Krishna Das.

Two of my favorites are “Door of Faith” and “A Drop of the Ocean”

Dave Stringer does some Western influenced kirtan (Indian call and response chanting).

Some of it gets a bit up-tempo in a joyful, celebatory way, so it may not be as calming as you’d like.

Regardless, I highly recommend “Japa” or "Mala”

Another nice kirtan style album is Diana Roger’s “Unveiled” http://www.amazon.com/Unveiled-Diana-Rog...

Sometimes nice for meditating is Robert Slap’s “Eternal OM”.

No instruments, just male voices chanting “OM”, mainly one by one,

but often overlapping as they slowly fade out.

    Another meditation favorite is “Tamboura”.

If not familiar, a tamboura is meant to contribute a background drone as accompaniment to a sitar.

It has the same buzzing-string sound, but does not play a melodic line.

If a little Tibetan Buddhism influence appeals to you, I suggest “Dorje Ling” by David Parsons.

The first track is a bit dramatic/aggressive, but the remaining tracks are, for most part, mellow.

Almost operatic in quality is Lisa Gerrard.

    Two favorites are “Duality” http://www.amazon.com/Duality-Lisa-Gerra...

    and “The Mirror Pool”  http://www.amazon.com/Mirror-Pool-Lisa-G...

    Namaste',
