  1. Not to sound condescending, but your question is a very generic one.

It's like asking, "I want to buy a vehicle, which one should I get?"

It depends on what you wish to do with the laptop, and what your budget deems.

Are you a hardcore gamer? Better get the most powerful processor, and graphics available.

Perhaps you're an office/clerical, professional type person, who requires using multiple programs, and multiple applications at the same time. You need the powerful processor, without needing as powerful an integrated graphics. (Laptops have a graphics chip soldered to the motherboard inside. It's not upgradeable, or changeable like a desktop unit.) Should you plan on Powerpoint presentations, however, a powerful integrated graphics chip might be a better choice.

Once you buy a laptop, that's it! There's no upgrading the processor, plus no upgrading the graphics. You have to buy a better laptop, as your budget deems, or lay out big bucks from the get go.

Everyone has their opinion on which is the best manufacturer of laptops. This is usually based on personal experience. Nothing wrong with that, but they do make good laptops, and lemons also. Just like cars, trucks, etc. You might buy the same make and model of a laptop, that Joe Blow bought last week, and indicated it was excellent.

    Yours might be a lemon!

The best way, is to search the internet for reviews of laptops by computer websites that are unbiased, and review hundreds of laptops for a living. Yes, some of them are biased, and hope the manufacturer will send them more of their products, if they give a good review. Who knows, maybe some of them get a kick-back!

Since I am a computer geek, and eat, sleep, and drink computers, naturally I have an opinion of a Good laptop. lol!

I try to base my decisions, on deductive reasoning based on intelligent thought. But who knows? Maybe I just like the shiny stuff, with lots of bells and whistles! lol!

I found a laptop about six months ago on the internet, that fits my needs, and I believe is the best all-around choice for many. Why?

    Because it's an upgradeable laptop.

No longer, does a user have to buy what they can afford at that moment, for what performance and features they want. Then go, and buy another laptop later to upgrade this.

The Asus C90s. This laptop uses a desktop processor, not a lame mobile processor built for laptops. It has a desktop processor socket on the motherboard. This means a user can buy a small performance processor, and upgrade later as their budget, and needs, deems.

This laptop also uses a graphics card. You, the user can take it out, and upgrade the graphics.

The laptop supports,(Uses),Intel Core2 Duo processors. You can put a small Intel Core2 Duo E4700 processor in it, or all the way up to an Intel Core2 Duo Extreme Edition X6800.

The Intel Core2 Duo E4700 has two processor cores that operate at 2.2GHz EACH. 2MB's of L2 cache, and an 800MHz FrontSideBus.

In comparison, the Intel Pentium 4, Model 540J, has one processor core operating at 3.2GHz. 1MB of L2 cache, and an 800MHz FSB.

    The Core2 Duo E4700 is 42% faster!

This laptop will support up to 3GB's of DDR2 Sdram. (SO-DIMM style for laptops.) Either the 533MHz speed version, or the 667MHz speed version.

The Asus C90s only comes as a 'barebones' laptop. This means you have to buy the barebones unit, then buy, and install the processor, ram, harddrive, and graphics card. HOWEVER, there are websites that sell the Asus C90s barebones, and offer options for various hardware components listed above. The site I will list below will assemble the laptop, with these components for you, for $40 bucks.

The Asus C90s barebones unit comes stock with:

1.Fingerprint reader, and a large touchpad.

2.Built-in 2.0 megapixel web cam. (Built into the Top/Middle of the LCD frame screen. Is tilt-able, and has a Facetracking feature that you can enable or not)

3.Has an HDMI port on the side. You can plug a large screen into this.

4.Has an e-Sata port on the side. You can plug an external Sata harddrive into it, if you wish. Much faster than plugging into a Firewire port, or a USB port.

5.Has 3-USB ports, that are the 2.0 version.

    6.Has a Mini-Firewire port.

7.Has a VGA port, in case you want to plug a VGA monitor into it.

8.Has a Dual Layer DVD combo drive. SuperMulti so it recognizes all formats of CD's and DVD's. Will play and burn CD's and DVD's. There are HD and BluRay drives available.

8.Has Bluetooth built in. You can enable it, or not.

9.Has a 10/100/1000 LAN port on the side.

10.Has a 15.4 inch ColorShine Glossy Screen, LCD monitor screen.

11.Has two built-in speakers, and two built-in microphones. Has a port for plugging a microphone in also.

These are just some of the features.

(Wanted to see if this went through, before I attached the links to info on the laptop, and the above site I mentioned)

    1.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPrw89QIX...

Video on YouTube that is put on by Computer Shopper website. These people review computers and parts. They do not sell the above.

    2.Info on the laptop: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthre...

    3.More info: http://computershopper.com/feature/build...

4.http://www.directron.com/asusc90s.html  The above site I mentioned.

5.Top of the line graphics card offered for it:

    http://www.directron.com/90c1ciz5jxbn0.h...

6.This is just a site for reference. You can also install this processor instead of the Intel Core2 Duo E4700. (Top of the line processor offered by the above site.) This processor will 'smoke' anything you want to do! The E4700 will so just fine, but should you want to 'run with the big kids', one day, this baby will do it!

    http://www.superwarehouse.com/p.cfm?p=14...

A build on the above website with the top of the line options they offer,(Intel Core2 Duo E4700 processor, 2-1GB sticks of Crucial DDR2 ram at 533MHz,{2GB's total}, 320 GB Sata Western Digital harddrive,{WD3200BEVT}, Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3), and the graphics card I listed, will cost $1057.95 for the build, $40 more for them assembling it, and $130 for the graphics card.

Sound expensive? Maybe. Compare it to units that cost $2500, or more. You'll probably have this laptop for the next six, or more years. Comes out a little cheaper dividing it by the year. Also when you take into effect, that you'll have a powerful, and graphics intensive laptop, with features that other laptops that only cost more have.

    Just my thoughts!

  2. You need to provide more details like what software or work you will be doing on the laptop? i.e. graphic designing / homework (Microsoft Office Related) / chating ?
