My sister and I are thnking a roommate referral service would be a good idea...we live in Washington! we kind of have an idea how to start but would like your input on ...how much do you think we should charge and just basic ideas to give us a head start.....thankx

Check to see if there are any locally first. It's only a bad idea if there are so many already listed. If not, I think it's a great idea! Try posting a website and ad too. Also figure any possible finances.

pricing is one of the hardest steps in starting your own business. before you even considering your rates, you need to calculate your start up costs and montly expenses (running a website, etc.). Also to take into consideration is competition. Is there any competitors out there doing what you want to do? It might take more than a basic internet search to find the answer to that one.

The most important thing you need to do right now is make a business plan...even if you dont need a loan. This will provide you with a direction, goals, expectations, costs, profits, policies, etc. You can google sample business plans and outlines.
