  1. First off, tell the person who will take the blood that you have a needle phobia. Then be certain to NOT look at the needle either before of after they bring it out.

Try your best to not tense up 'cause that makes the pain worse.

I used to have this problem, then I became an IV drug user!

I don't suggest going that route though...it's too difficult to quit.

  2. I am a phleb (take blood in hospital) no need to worry about being needle phobic you would be suprised about the amount of people that are. Generally grown men. We are very used to it. Obviously its important to have it done so you don't really have a choice. Make sure you let the nurse know that you are needle phobic so she is prepared for your reaction (there is nothing worse than a patient screaming or jumping when you don't expect it, you could end up doing more damage) you can take your mum. Just take deep breaths and squeeze mums hand tight it really is over in seconds. Just remember KEEP STILL if she misses because you moved you will have to have a second one. Try not to fixate on it the whole time your waiting you will just work yourself up. Hope it goes well try not to dont wodon't

  3. Tell the person that will be taking your blood you are scared of needles. You are not the only one! They are professionals and deal with this every day.

I don't see why your mom would not be able to go with you. Take deep breathes and think of something else. It will be over in just a few seconds. Good Luck!
