Question:

Negative portraying of superhero women?

I noticed in hollyhood movies that superwomen tend to be s**y sidekicks to men superheroes. Is this fair? is it time for someone to make a movie that does not portray women in that negative way? who is to blame in all of this?

  1. Lola, all of these women were attractive, but then again there are few unattractive women or men...even children in movies.

I think you are really trying to find something to whine about.  As Lola mentioned there are many movies incorporating women seen in positive lights.

  2. who would pay to see Rosie O'Donnell in spandex?

    Enough said!

  3. Instead of moaning about it make your own, must us men make all the movies.

  4. Maybe the problem is with the Audience, not the Producers. The makers of superhero movies are interested in making movies that sell.

By far Boys and men are the consumers of superhero movies and they want to relate to strong Male superhero's, and see s**y women who hence get delegated to the role of side kicks.

If they made a superhero movie futuring a strong, intellegent nonsexual female super hero, no one would watch it. The Girls wouldn't go see it because its a superhero movie and the boys wouldn't go see it because they wouldn't relate. They want to see the Hulk smash up downtown, or Ireon man blow stuff up, not a social experiement in political correctness

  5. In that respect I'd say there has been a significant shift in the number of  super hero movies with strong female leads.

Electrica, the Incredibles and the Fantastic Four are three which spring to mind.

I would imagine though it has a lot to do with the super hero movies target market.

Having worked with young children for quite a while I can tell you that it is mostly boys who want to emulate the classic super heroes. Things are changing but we are still socialising boys and girls in very different ways.  Think of how toys are marketed?

  7. how is that negative? male super heroes have been wearing jock straps from the beginning. who is to blame for that? g*y comic artists? I think not. the movie Elektra showed her with a very functional outfit. Invisible Girl's outfit was like her male counterparts. Wonder Woman is not a sidekick. Catwoman is not a sidekick. Supergirl is not a sidekick. they may be s**y, but i feel their performances are positive entertainment in my opinion. Stay up!

  8. I don't think that is true but whatever....

I mean look at wonderwoman she was no mans side kick.

  9. The sexualization of women is something we all have to work on getting out.  It seems it is much worse now then even 40yr ago.

Men in the 50's opened the doors for us and protected us, now we can't even go jogging alone without the fear of being attacked.

You cannot even look in the newspaper or be here on Yahoo answers without some chick in a tiny bikini with her legs spread.  We need to stand up and say enough.

  10. "If they made a superhero movie futuring a strong, intellegent nonsexual female super hero, no one would watch it."

What about Kill Bill? Serenity? Run Lola Run? Star Wars? The Matrix? Alien? Mulan? Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? Underworld?

  12. Which female superhero are you referring to ? The only movie I can think of that includes women with superpowers as secondary roles would be Hellboy (and the name more or less restricts who the lead role is going to be), or the Fantastic Four (where the lead role is more or less shared amongst four people, one being Jessica Alba). I guess you could argue Elektra in Daredevil, but then she was given her own sequel movie where she was the lead role. Oh, I almost forgot X-men... which again, includes women not as sidekicks but as superheroes (The womens roles are as important as those of the men).

  13. Tomb raider kicks ***!
