Negotiations between David Wright and New York Mets far from final stages - MLB Update
Andy McCullough, who belongs to Newark Star Ledger, has been informed by a source that the negotiations with regard to contract extension between David Wright and New York Mets have not yet entered into a final stage.
Earlier the reports stated that the Mets are engaged in talks with Wright ever since the conclusion of the season. There was an impression that the deal will be confirmed soon and that the Mets will announce the details of their new contract with Wright.
Contrary to the previous reports, it is coming out now that still both the parties have yet to go a long way in reaching a conclusion.
Wright wants to stay with the club but at the same time he is looking for an expensive deal.
He was the torch bearer for the Mets in 2012 regular season as he spearheaded their offence. He was one of the most prolific hitters in the National League.
Against the backdrop of his impressive performance, he has legitimate reasons to expect a blockbuster offering.
The Mets, on the other hand, are not financially strong. Despite the fact they earnestly want to retain Wright, they may not grant him the kind of agreement that is consistent with his wishes.
The delay in the announcement of the new contract can be an indication that the Mets are unable to agree on certain clauses of the deal.
The fact they exercised option on Wright in order to ascertain his inclusion on their roster for the upcoming season can be another manifestation of the reluctance of the Mets regarding the signing of an extravagant contract.
As the offseason progress, there will be plenty of speculation about the intention of the Mets and whether they are willing to retain Wright or not.
Apart from Wright, R.A. Dickey is another candidate that awaits a new agreement from the Mets. Just like Wright, he was also the top performer for New York in the last season. He led their pitching department, ensuring a great number of wins for the team.
The Mets’ fans love Wright and are anxiously waiting for the announcement of his retention by the club.
They will be extremely disappointed if he is not granted a contract extension in the offseason.
