Question:

Neighbor's itunes library showing up on my itunes?

Twice now, I've had somebody's itunes library appear on the left hand column of my own itunes... near where it says devices, playlists, etc, it says Shared and lists a library called "[my next-door neighbor's name]'s Itunes Library".

I have wireless internet and a router that is protected only by the base password (my brother recently moved back home and he reset it to allow himself access and as far as I'm aware did not set a new password.)

Before, in the "shared" section I have seen my mom's itunes library show up (as we are on the same wireless network) but nobody else's.

Is it likely that my neighbors are using our wireless internet to gain access? If they are, is it possible it was unintentional?

  1. It is quite possible that your neighbors are using your internet. If you are positive your network is still protected, then no it can not be unintentionally.

If you browse your router, you can see who and what computers are connecting, along with thier IP and Unique Mac address. See who else is out there.

I recommend using a router that is secure with WPA or WPA2

  2. Your neighbors may very well be using your wireless connecting to access the net since you no longer have a password to restrict access to your connect. I have also seen in the dorms at my college that everyone within the building can access the itunes of everyone else because of the way we access the net in them. My advice is to create a password for your connection again and check to see if your neighbors itunes library goes away. If it does not then check to make sure your accessing your wireless connection and not theirs since itunes shares the music via a network created by a common connecting.
