My husband & I own our house and are being terrorized by a neighbor (renter). She has called the police, animal control, and the health dept numerous times - she actually called the cops 3 times in 3 days for nothing. We've never once been charged with anything. Most recently, the called the cops and wanted them to make us move OUR vehicles from OUR yard so she could stand on our property while installing a fence! She and her children throw rocks at our dog and trespass on our property (we did call the cops once when we caught her throwing rocks at our dog). I've even had to scold her children for hitting rocks at my house with a baseball bat (she leaves them alone with no supervision all day). The police even suggested that I go to the magistrate and file a harassment warrant against her. What can I do to get this crazy ***** to leave me alone?? She's a renter and I'm a homeowner...so I'm not moving.

  1. I would do what the police officer suggest of filing a harassment warrant against them or even getting a  restraining order where they can't be near you and your family or your property.

It truly sounds like they are trying to run you out of your house.

Also if you know the landlord or property management that is renting the house to them, I would contact them and let them know what is going on also.

I hope you can get this taken care of.

  2. hmm...I once heard that this man shot  a girl on his yard with a pistol. He did not go to jail because he said that was his property. Maybe you should put a sign and then see what happens.

  3. File that harassment warrant right now!

Get some surveillance cameras for your home and place them in discreet locations.  Create a log of every single infraction.  If she sets foot on your property, you can have her arrested.

The cameras are proof of her activities.  Make sure that the cameras are not directly aimed at her house.  They should be aimed at your yard (but if her house happens to be in the background...).

Go to a real estate agent and find out who owns the home and contact them.  Tell them what is going on and also make them aware that you have been forced to file a harassment warrant.  Hopefully, he'll just evict her.

  4. Ah yes, been there, done that.....

How you deal with a neighbor from h**l...

    1) Call Health & Welfare and tell 'em that the kids are being left unsupervised all day long and are vandalizing your property, terrorizing your dog etc and etc. Most low life renters (and most assuredly, your renter is a low life) will scamper once they think Health & Welfare is keeping an eye on them.

    2) While you are at it, call the Humane Society. Tell them that the neighborhood kids have been seen attacking neighborhood pets and that have been caught red-handed throwing rocks at YOUR dog. The Humane Society is a separate branch of enforcement and in many cases, will handle things differently than a regular patrolman.

    3) Also, call the police department and ask to speak to your area's Neighborhood Contact Officer (aka Community police officer) and ask for him to visit you in your home to discuss a neighborhood harassment problem. Most cities have a community policing program with cops assigned to a particular district of town. Working with an NCO directly means that you don't end up with a different cop every time you have an issue with this woman. Working with your NCO, you should be able to establish a pattern of harassment and can file a complaint on her. (and yes, I've had to do this myself and I know the process works)

    4) You may also want to call her landlord. You can get his name, address, and phone number from the county courthouse ~  property tax division. I usually do this over the phone, and when explaining why I need the owner's number, the county clerks will just give me the info happily. Sometimes...it really does help to call the owner, and explain what has been going on. It's been my experience that landlords don't want to be hassled by p*ssed off neighbors and if they know that it's bad enough that you are thinking about filing a suit against the tenant, he may worry that he may be named in the complaint as well.

  5. To me it seems that you are as bad, if not worse that your neighbor.

You seem unreasonable in not  moving your vehicle's to allow access for your neighbor to put up a fence to keep your dogs off her property.

Your neighbor seems to be looking after the property by spending money on fences to keep her children away from your dogs and vice versa.

I think you need to look at your behavior before you have any right to criticize your neighbors.

You may well own your house but that does not make you better that your neighbor.

  6. Filing a restraining or harassment order would be a start.  Then, see whether you can find out who the owner she is renting from and contact them. Keep a log by date and time of her schnanigans.  Take photos of any damage caused to your home by their rock throwing and try to catch them in the act with a digital camera.  In my city, that is a criminal act and proof is needed before charges can be brought. Consider contacting the humane society for the animal abuse your dog is suffering.  If I owned that rental property and had a tenant causing other neighbors such distress, I would not renew her lease.  If she is already month to month, the lease can be terminated with 30 days notice.

  7. Contact the rental homes real owner and complain. He will probably say it's not his concern, but eventually it will become his...maybe he'll consider having a talk with them and/ or not renewing their lease!
