Ok a few minutes ago I let my dogs out and ( 5 month old pup and 3 year old bulldog) I went back into the house to put my clothes into the dryer and when I went back out the neighbor (whom I have never met or talked to or had any problems with) beside my house had dumped at least a cup of dog food in my yard and watched my dogs l**k it and nibble it. I yelled and the guy ran away I scooped my dogs up and took them into the house they seem fine I checked out the dog food, it doesn't smell like antifreeze but it is wet. I call the emergency number to the vet and now I am waiting for him to call back is there anything I can do if they start to get sick, any remedy's I can use? please help

  1. If it was laced with something toxic to a dog, about the only thing you can do is make them throw up or go to the Vet.

  2. If there was antifreeze on the food, you only have 12 hours to have the test run. After that time, the antifreeze dissipates and won't show up on the test, but will still KILL your dogs. Don't wait for your vet to call you back. Get them to an emergency clinic IMMEDIATELY. Time is of the essence.

  3. charcoal absorbs poisons but i'd bring them to an emergency vet and they'll give them something to make them throw up and have the dog food tested if he tried to kill ur dogs u can press changes

  4. Oh my. That sounds like he did. Because why would he just sit dog food out for your babies. And it was wet. What a scum bag. Tell the cops. And go ahead and try to find the nearest emergency animal hospital near you. Get the address and phone number and have it out just in case they do get sick. And as soon as the vet open back up I would have them checked out to see if he did(even if they dont get sick). Because chances are he may do it again. And if he did this time, those dogs are your personal property and that will be a law suit. Good luck and I hope that guy the worst.

  5. You should call your local emergency vet - the pill to induce vomiting in a dog is something like $27 - maybe they can give you the pill just to be safe without charging you an arm and a leg just to get in to the emergency vet.

That... is very odd.  Does your neighbor have dogs, or do your dogs bark a lot when outside?

  6. Just watch your dogs carefully. Take away any food or water and have them lay down and rest. Also.. REPORT that guy! Keep the food as evidence or as testing to see if it truly was something harmful in it. I hope your dog is alright.

  7. I hope your babies are o.k..  This is the reason I always go outside and guard my dogs when they go outside to go potty and play.  I have nasty neighbors too.  The vet should have given them a vitamin k shot.  Most vets have a phone number you can call for emergencies, and they will drive in for their regular customers.  My old vet did that.  My new vet has a phone number to call, but you have to call the number twice and someone on  her staff takes turns answering it.  Find out your plan for the next time.

  8. About two months ago our landlord put rat poison on pieces of bread and left them lying around. Our puppy somehow got out and got her hands on some and being the brat she is, ate a little. She was like 4 months at the time.

She started whimpering and crying and walking crooked, and even threw up a couple of time. Mostly just bile after a while.

We gave her milk to soothe her stomach and/or make her throw up the poison.

Vet told us (I swear) to completely burn a tortilla and dissolve it in water and have her drink it. We had to force feed it to her, but it seemed to work. After a while she kind of settled down and got better.

We really thought she was going to die, but she made it through. She even went and layed at our feet, like she wanted us to help her. I don't know if you want to try any of the things we did, or wait for your vet to call.

I will warn you, however, my dog took about an hour to start showing symptoms, maybe a little less.

Edited to say that Jen J is probably right, and that's why the vet had us burn that tortilla til it was black.

  9. No there isn't just keep and eye on your dogs. Go outside and bag the kibble up. Also make a call to animal control and let them know what you saw and that you have the dog food.

  10. Go in now! Put the kibble in a bag to show the vet so he can test it for anifreeze. Give them lots of water and like I said, just hurry and go to the vet! (I am not a vet so its better to seek his advice)

    EDIT:

Oh, poor things. I prayed for them!!! Do you know if they caught your neighbor?

  11. since you dont have any idea about the form of poisen all you can do is  wait until you can get some help. This is very unfortunate and I hope that no harm comes to your dogs. I wish the best for you. I would reccommend keeping them inside for the rest of the day and keeping an eye on them. You might be able to find an  emergency vet if you look through the phone book.

  12. I know this sounds cruel ,but, please turn on the water hose mild force and stick it down their throat. After a minute they should vomit.DO IT NOW.My best friends dobbie tried to eat a toxic frog and thats what the ER vet said to do.It worked until she could get help loading Appollo in the car.He had to stay for 12 hours. The vet said the water and vomiting nuetralizes, dilutes and forces the poisen up and out.Good luck and Prayers to your babbies,J

Whats your "neighbors" address?I'll feed him a little and see how he likes it-ok I wont but I wish

  13. Water.LOTS of it. and take them in NOW!!! Don't wait on hold take them in. It could be lethal. Like Raven said bag the food up and call Animal Control to come get it or bring it to the vet with you.

  14. Bag up the rest of the food in a ziploc bag - a new one - and save it for the lab.  You want to get this @#$% for what he just did. You also don't want to forget, and have them find it again.

Look for some hydrogen peroxide while you are waiting to hear from the vet- don't give it to them yet, just find it.  Make sure it fizzes when you put a little down the drain or on the floor - when it;s uncapped and in the warm temps, it trun to water and is useless - you need stuff that fizzes, or you don;t have any...

when the vet calls back they MAY have you give them some peroxide to make them vomit - you can soak a piece of bread in it, and they will probably eat it readily.

Grab some other ziploc bags, and label them with your dog's names - collect up what they vomit if they do.  You want to keep track of how much they ';returned' as opposed to how much you think they might have eaten.

Inducing vomiting is only about 60 % successful in most cases, and you want to get that stuff out of them as soon as you can - but the vet may say otherwise.

I am not sure what the reaction is between antifreeze and peroxide, so I'm not sure what they would say to do, I am telling you to anticipate so you are ready and organized...

If the vet is close enough, JUST GO as soon as you can - they have a way of making the dogs vomit immediately with a drug called apomorphine, so you shouldn't mess around with the peroxide if you can get there fast...

But whatever that b*tard gave them, you want it out of them FAST.

And call the police when you get home and report him.

      Good luck...
