Question:

Neighbors Stereo.?

My neighbors have a pool and have outdoor speakers. The speakers run to a stereo inside the house. They play it all day even when they are not home and it drives me nuts! So the stereo that supplies the sound is inside the house, and inaccessible, but the speakers are outside and I have access to them. Is there any thing I can do like jamming the FM signal or blow the circuit and ruin the stereo. Or does anyone have a different idea. And i have already talked to them and they dont care. i know jamming the signal is illegal and that doing this is unethical and all that junk, so if you dont have an idea of what to do or know how to do the stuff i suggested, please dont tell me its illegal or anything.

  1. Check out the article "Neighbor Wars" in the latest (September 2008) Consumer Reports magazine. It is a detailed and exhaustive article on just that subject.

  2. Write them a formal complaint letter explaining that the loud stereo disturbs you and asking them gentile to please keep it down or off.   I would also research my local city, township and county ordinances and codes to determine if they are in violation.    If they continue not to care, I would, following the legal research , attempt to file a civil complaint for injunctive relief (stop playing the d**n stereo) or monetary damages and determine if my city attorney or state attorney general could file a criminal complaint, which would result in arrest, fine or short incarceration.     You don't want to cause damages to their stereo because you could now be the defendant in a court action.    Let the legal system work for you.

I suspect you could jam their signal without significant consequence, unless it caused interference with others in your area attempting to listen to the involved radio station.

Radio transmissions are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission only, not by any local or state authorities or different federal authorities.    If you have an FM transmitter, it would be delightful to, at least once,  transmit

your own voice through their system announcing that their

    (expletitive) stereo is too loud.
