Neighbours making money from Wells Fargo Championship: Golf News
2011 Wells Fargo Championship is bringing fortune to the local residents of Charlotte, New Carolina by various means. One of such examples is Jane Allen who makes good money every year via her residence, when the tournament hits Quail Hollow Club.
Jane, who is a retired Mecklenburg County School teacher, spoke to the press about her seasonal business in an interview. She said, “I have regular customers who come back every year. I probably already sold 20 spots for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I park
20 cars in the front yard, eight in the back and eight in the driveway.”
The resident of South Charlotte lives 200 yards away from the course, which attracts a star-studded field every year. The venue has been hosting Wells Fargo Championship since some time and Jane has been taking the advantage of living next door. She lends
her yard to spectators, who want to catch a glimpse of the golfers playing around and to the bank that puts a tent in the same area to provide shelter for the shutter service.
Jane earns money from the event and later spends it on paying off the Mecklenburg County taxes and taking her grandchildren for vacations to the beach.
With this ongoing business, the neighbours are facing nuisance with people barging in and out of the vicinity. Fred Smith who shares the same neighbourhood with Jane, complained with the local authorities about his privacy being evaded.
The resident who had his yard separated with that of Jane’s through a rope told the press, “She charges to park next door and that (rope) is there to keep them out of my yard because I don't let them park in my yard. If they park on the edge of the driveway,
they assume you can get out, but you can't. It's a yearly nuisance to me because I'm not involved and I don't make money and I don't get the benefit.”
Despite the complaint, Jane is continuing with her seasonal business, as the sponsor is also involved in it. Looking at Jane making a fortune, other residents have also put their driveways on rent in order to cash in on the opportunity, which comes once
in a year to the area.
