Neil Alexander will sign new deal at Rangers
Goalkeeper Neil Alexander will sign a new contract at Rangers. Alexander is likely to sign the contract within the next 10 days. Rangers announced that the Scottish player’s agent was in advanced talks with the club after two months of negotiations. Alexander
is expected to sign a three year deal with the club. Alexander moved to Rangers from Cardiff City and has been included in the Scottish national team.
Alexander is currently the reserve keeper with Allan McGregor the number one choice. The player was happy to sign a new deal despite the lack of first team football and said, “it’s fantastic to be at a club like this and I have been fortunate enough to play
in four cup finals and in Old Firm games. I am happy on and off the pitch and I love coming to work every day.”
The 32 year old has also been second choice in the Scottish set up with McGregor again picked as the number one. However, Alexander was omitted from the squad in the last outing because he has not played enough competitive football. The goalkeeper is expected
to feature against Dunfermline Athletic in the 3rd round of the Co-Operative Insurance Cup at Ibrox.
The Rangers manager Walter Smith signalled the player for praise, “Neil has had half a season when Allan was out injured and then he had a spell when we won the championship in 2009.” McGregor is still very much the number one both for Rangers and Scotland,
but Smith has realised the importance of keeping a large and happy squad. With Rangers competing in the Premier League, Scottish Cup, Insurance Cup and in the Champions League Alexander is likely to play an important role and play in a number of matches for
the Scottish club.
