Neil Harvey advises Ricky Ponting to retire – Cricket News Update
One of Australia’s greatest-ever batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 should call it a day now, as the former skipper had his time at the International stage.
He stated that without any doubt, Ponting has been a great performer for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 over the years, but it is time for him to quit.
He also criticised Ponting’s rigid attitude, and cited that the batsman has unnecessarily been prolonging his career just like the way the former Aussie skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726, did in the past.
"He (Ponting) is not helping the side at all - there`s no future in him. He had his day, he should realise that and retire," a leading daily quoted Harvey, as saying.
Despite the reality that the gurus of the sport are split on Ponting’s retirement, many Australian and international cricketers have advised him to quietly say good bye to International cricket before the selectors dump him.
However, the veteran is adamant that he is still good enough to win games for his country, and not thinking about his retirement at the moment.
Apart from his half-century in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test, Ponting did nothing special on the tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. It was not the first time; the experienced fellow remained unsuccessful in contributing anything good with the bat. He had
a disastrous Ashes last year followed by an ordinary World Cup performance.
The Kangaroos have a couple of crucial home series ahead, and the imminent competition against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 is likely to be his last outing, if he once again fails to do well.
After recommending Ponting to walk out, Harvey heaped praise on the teen sensation http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins, and termed the 18-year-old as a promising young fast bowler.
“He`s got a lot to learn, mind you. His accuracy is not quite there yet, but he`s got legitimate pace, and he bowls a good bouncer and he seems to have the right attitude. I just hope that they are going to look after him a bit, and not bowl him too much
- burn him out," added the 83-year-old former batsman who played in 79 Tests for Australia.
