Neil Harvey considers Australian dip in form most rapid ever
Australia’s Former Chairman of selectors, Neil Harvey has said that the Australian cricket team is moving backwards, and the dip in form hasn’t stopped yet. Harvey expressed his views after England continued to dominate Australia in the final Ashes Test.
Harvey remembered the era of the late seventies when the Kerry Packer series started, and the top Australian players left the team for that series. Harvey stated, “One minute I had a Test team and the next day I had nobody.” He believes that the national
team’s current predicament is similar, as a few top players retired from the sport in the recent past.
Harvey also captained the Australian team against England in the 1960s. He stated that the downfall of the Australian team has been rapid. According to Harvey, “I can safely say I have never seen an Australian team go backwards so quickly. That's the disappointing
part about these past couple of years. Ever since the Lord's Test in 2009 we have declined rather rapidly, and I'm afraid it hasn't stopped yet.”
Harvey said that team has to start all over again, and some players need to be shown the door from Test cricket, including the Australian captain Ricky Ponting. Criticising Ponting he said, “Ponting thinks he's going to England at 38 years of age. I wouldn't
bet him to make too many runs. We've got too many old blokes in the side. I know a couple of them are doing OK with the bat, but their time has got to be up, really.”
Although disappointed by the current Australian dip in form, Harvey was confident that the Aussies will make a quick recovery. He said that the country has some extraordinary talent, and it won’t be long before the Australian team starts to dominate the
other teams yet again.
The Australian team has been unable to regain the Ashes in their home series, and this was the first time in 24 years that England retained the Ashes in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. The team has struggled to perform due to the lack of form of some senior players like Ponting
and Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120.
