Neil Jenkins thinks James Hook should play No. 10 position against Pumas - Rugby
Former Wales great, Neil Jenkins, who represented his national side for more than a decade, has supported James Hook for the No. 10 position in their upcoming clash against the Pumas on August 20. Jenkins, while discussing the future line of action for Wales
during a Television debate on August 20, said that Hook could be more effective for the side while playing at outside-half. James Hook normally plays at fly-half or full-back position for the national side.
Jenkins was a player for Wales since the early 90s to 2003. He rendered many services for the side in his decade long career as Jenkins scored 1049 points in his 87 outgoings for Wales. He has also has the honour of playing for British and Irish Lions where
he accumulated 41 points for the esteemed club in just four games.
Expressing his expert views in the debate, Jenkins said that Hook has great potential to play at No. 10 position. He further said that, “I’ve always seen James as a 10 – I have never seen him as anything else. He’s a fantastic player. It is a big opportunity
against Argentina for Hooky. We know what he is about and how good he is. We each know his favourite position is 10 and he wants to play there.”
Talking about the traditional position that Hook plays, he said that, “It’s probably not easy for Hooky being as good as he is. If you have an injury at centre or full-back, he’s the first to come into your thoughts as a possible replacement. You think he
can play centre or 15, while knowing how good he is at 10. It’s not easy for him in that scenario.”
Hook, who played the last game for Wales at the full-backs’ position, displayed a great winning performance. He scored 13 individual points for his side against England in August and helped his side to a 19-9 victory. James Hook is representing the Welsh
side since 2006 and has earned 53 test caps for his side so far.
