Neil Marsden and James Dodd win 2011 420 End of Season Championship at Grafham Water Sailing Club
Spectators at Grafham Water Sailing Club witnessed an impressive sailing display from Neil Marsden and James Dodd, as the pair put their training into test and made their way to the top of 2011 420 End of Season Championship standings. The duo sailed their
420 in scintillating fashion and finished the event on first podium spot with six points after three races.
First day of the championship brought fog over the race course and participants were unable to see the water from the clubhouse. The fleet had to wait for a little wind and fog to be cleared so they could commence first day’s racing. Thankfully, after a
while, the fog cleared with a light breeze appearing which allowed the fleet to launch their boats at once.
Marsden and Dodd clinched first two beats of the initial day followed by Craig Dibb / Charlie Cox and Scott Wallis / Josh Voller on second places, respectively. The leaderboard could not continue their winning streak in the third race and tumbled down on
fourth place but despite that fourth, they managed to remain on top of the standings at the end of the day.
The event was supposed to last for two days but unfortunately, the forecast did not allow sailors to have any race on Day 2, as the fog came back but the wind did not. Due to the weather factor, the race committee had to abandon second day’s racing and compiled
the results on the basis of Day 1 racing, where Marsden and Dodd were announced as winners of the regatta.
