http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Monday, June 20, 2011.
The hosts scored a solid first innings total of 403 runs, losing just eight wickets, before they declared.
In reply, the Hampshire batsmen were all-out for 239 in their first outing. They were forced to bat for the second consecutive time in the match, as the follow on was imposed on them, but South Africa’s, Neil McKenzie scored a brilliant ton, giving his side
some hopes at the end of the third day’s play on Monday.
Earlier, Worcester won the toss and chose to bat on a good batting wicket. Their batsmen made most of the good conditions, scoring a huge total in their first innings. The highlight of the innings was a superb century from former England player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vikram-Singh-Solanki-c95274,
who top scored with 173 runs.
There were also some solid half-centuries scored by the home team’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alexei-Nicolaas-Kervezee-c43287 and Shakib-Al-Hasan. They scored 60, 55 and 54 in their respective knocks.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mascarenhas-c912 tried his best to restrict the opposition on a lower total, but his effort went in vain. He took three wickets in the innings for the visitors.
The Hampshire’s first innings was not an ideal one, as their batsmen failed to make a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 support from
the other batsmen.
There were a couple of more fifties from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nic-Pothas-c2100, who collected 50 and 60 respectively, but it didn’t save the team from a follow on.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alan-Richardson-c42776 and Shakib took four wickets each in the innings, restricting the opposition to 239/10.
Following on, the start to the visitors’ second innings was not a very good one. They lost Adams early, who just managed one run in his http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Liam-Andrew-Dawson-c72856, who gave his wicket away on 19.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-John-Lumb-c76038 and Vince were the next two wickets to fall in the innings after adding 11 and four runs to the total respectively. The Hampshire team was struggling at 40 for four at that stage and things looked bad for them.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/McKenzie-c75497 used all his experience to rescue his side from trouble. He was supported by the team’s wicketkeeper batsman, Pothas, who impressed throughout the game.
The pair put together 143 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Pothas got out after scoring 72 runs. He played really well and smashed four fours and a couple of sixes in his knock.
None of the lower-order players was able to make an impression, but McKenzie reached 106 runs before being dismissed. At http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Close-c51347 of play, the visitors had an overall lead of 105 runs with just one wicket remaining.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395 continued to be dominant in the match, picking up a five-wicket haul in the innings.
