Neil Mulholland hails Midnight Chase for a successful career – Horseracing News
Neil Muholland praised his trainee, Midnight Chase, for his achievements throughout a six-year career, which saw numerous ups and downs.
The 11-year-old gelding recently retired to stud after failing to make any impression in the 2013 season. He enjoyed a very good career and won quite a few events, which made his team and fans proud.
Mulholland was sad at the retirement of his stallion and said, “Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. He was fantastic for me and has gone eventing with Lady Clarke's daughter, Sally. I owe him an awful lot, but the
main thing is he has retired safe and sound. He had to do it the hard way, that was his style as a front runner and he was genuine and tough.”
Cheltenham proved to be the luckiest ground for Midnight Chase, as he won a total of five races there. It is always a special thing for any challenger to deliver strong results at this ground, as it hosts some important events
throughout the year.
On Midnight Chase’s performances at this venue, Mulholland said, “He had a heart of gold and was a real trier. Cheltenham is our Wembley and to keep on rocking up there and winning big handicaps is a big thing.”
Overall, the veteran runner took part in a total of 30 races and never really had ay fitness concerns. He was a tough stallion and always gave a tough time to his opponents regardless of how difficult the track conditions were.
Although his strike rate is not a phenomenal one, he has managed to win 12 races, which is quite an impressive feat. Moreover, he has finished as a runner up on a couple of occasions whereas secured the third spot five times.
Over the last three seasons, it was very clear that Midnight Chase had lost his ability to be competitive with consistency. Despite that, his team took a lot of chances with him and hoped that he would return to his best once again.
However, things did not work out well for the son of Midnight Legend, who won his last race in 2012 at Cheltenham.
