Neil Ramirez makes good impression on Texas Rangers farm director, Scott Servais
If there is one thing the director of a farm system is supposed to do, it’s to groom prospects in the right way that would not only allow them to reach the Major League Baseball stage but would also help the club, they play for, avail the World Series.
For the Texas Rangers, young blood is the key. Not only does it cost less but it injects a new level of aggression in the squad. Director Scott Servais is one man, who is content at the moment.
The reason for the Director’s happiness comes in the form of prospect, Neil Ramirez. The player was recently sent up to Triple-A Round Rock from Class A Advanced Carolina League. Amazingly, the unusual calls are paying dividends now as the young hurler has
already played two games, standing in for Eric Hurley.
The player has yet to earn a run and he has pitched 15 2/3 innings.
"We may be a little aggressive with him at Triple-A, but we were in a bind last week and needed a starter there, and because of his work ethic, he had earned a shot", Rangers farm director Scott Servais said.
He went on to say that the hurler has taken the opportunity and is pouncing on the field. He confirmed that the young ball thrower will be in Triple-A for the time being.
Ramirez had fallen out of favour due to a weak 2009 season that saw him pitch 66 1/3 innings and give away 41 walks. However, pitching in Class A South Atlantic League in 2010 showed improvement. Now he is at the top of his game. As to what has changed the
maestro so much, the director had something to say.
Servais vehemently exclaims that it is a tremendous story.
"He's the only pitcher I've ever seen that has been able to change his arm action. Our pitching coaches in the Minor Leagues have done a great job with him and to Neil's credit, he has developed an understanding of his delivery and he can now make proper
adjustments himself. He's a good athlete who has come up with a Roy Halladay-type of workout routine".
Now with a good performance on his back, could Ramirez be heading into the Major Leagues soon?
