Neil Robertson and Steve Mifsud continue their winning streak at Bangkok Convention Centre: 2011 Snooker World Cup
Monday, July 11 was witness to a successful run by the Aussies, former world snooker champion Neil Robertson and Steve Mifsud, at Bangkok Convention Centre, as the pair continued their winning streak in 2011 Snooker World Cup. Their tremendous
victory over Thailand gave them a big boost of confidence, carrying that impetus into their second match with Malta, the pair once again came out 3-2 winners.
A brilliant display of snooker skills from Steve Mifsud took Australia towards their second victory in the snooker world cup. The pair remain on top of Group B after Day 2 of the event and look forward to retain the lead till the end of round-robin
group stage.
The Australian duo clinched their first victory against Thai pair of James Wattana and Dechawat Poomjaeng in their first group-stage match, by 4-1. They played tremendously and dominated the proceedings throughout the match.
Their next encounter was against Malta’s Tony Drago and Alex Borg where Mifsud played outstandingly in both individual matches to lead Australia to a 3-2 victory in the end. Robertson was impressed by his team-mate's playing style and praised
him on his performance in the second match.
While speaking to reporters after the match, Robertson said about his partner, “Steve hasn't played under this kind of pressure and it's good for him to produce the goods when it matters. He really did well. I lost the first frame and you don't
want to go 2-0 down in this format but if it wasn't for Steve we would've lost the match.”
“He was under pressure twice and won twice. He beat James Wattana last night and has now beaten Tony Drago and Alex Borg today. Steve and I practised regularly when I was back home but we've known each other for 16 years and both of our families
know each other,” he added.
Robertson hopes to finish on top of group by the end of round-robin formatted group stage matches, and with Misfud playing so well alongside him, that doesn’t seem unrealistic at all.
Mifsud has also qualified for the televised stages of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open and will be hoping to carry his winning momentum into the tournament.
