Neil Robertson beats Ricky Walden in final to win Players Tour Championship Event 6 – Snooker news
The Thunder from Down Under, Neil Robertson, has won the Players Tour Championship – Event 6, as he defeated the world number 21, Ricky Walden, by a frame score of 4-1 in a best-of-seven frames final match at the Arena Ursynow in Warsaw.
It was a commanding performance from the Australian professional, Robertson, who won the 2010 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, as he showcased magnificent breaks of 76, 69, 95 and 68 for the audience.
The 29-year-old, Robertson, who currently holds the 6th place in the world rankings, started in a straightforward fashion with a classy break of 76 to dominate the opening frame before Walden levelled the scores at 1-1 in the second
with a modest break of 62.
The Chester-based Walden did not get many chances in the third and fourth frames as Robertson fired carving breaks of 69 and 95 in both frames respectively to leave his opponent down by 2 frames with three to play.
The final fifth frame was a dramatic affair. Walden was the first one to be among the balls in it but he lost control of his emotions, breaking down on 46 and when the chance presented itself, Robertson finished the match with an excellent 68.
A delighted Robertson afterwards shared his feelings with the media.
“I couldn't have had a tougher draw as I've beaten the likes of Peter Ebdon, Stephen Maguire and Shaun Murphy to reach the final,” said Robertson, who has now won a tournament carrying ranking points in each of the last six years. “I had been on a good run
of form recently with a couple of semi-finals and I was really disappointed to lose in the semis of the Shanghai Masters. That was a wakeup call because you have to be efficient in the final stages of tournaments. It's all about winning them because that's
what you'll be remembered for. So I'm really pleased to convert this one.”
