During his final match campaign, Robertson smashed some stunning knocks of 103, 72, 60, 101, 76, 76 and 70 to reach the top podium of the tournament. The Thunder from Down Under stayed at the table from the beginning and gained complete control over the
score board. The 29-year-old retained his unique record of winning every televised final that he has ever played.
Murphy, on the other hand, tumbled down a bit in the second session of the match which became the reason of his defeat. He was not able to make an impact on his opponent. However, he fired some stunning knocks of 65, 102, 53, 52 and 86 during his final campaign.
At the conclusion of the event, Robertson spoke to World Snooker and said, “When I first came on the scene I was very attacking. I had no clue about tactics and it's a big thanks to Joe Perry and Mark King who I've been practicing with over the years, and
it's led to this moment. I couldn't have done it without their advice over the years.”
The World Number six added, “I was just looking for one good chance, and thankfully it came in that last frame. The run of winning major finals won't last forever. Obviously I'm confident going into finals because I have a great record. I always fancy my
chances.”
Both cuemen showed impressive form during their tournament run and made their way to the finals. Murphy played terrifically against Martin Gould, Mark Selby and the reigning World Snooker Champion, John Higgins to set up a clash against Robertson. Meanwhile,
Robertson ousted Mark Allen, Mark Williams and the 2011 UK Championship winner Judd Trump during his run in the contest.
