Neil Robertson defeats Michael Holt to set up a match with John Higgins – 2011 Shanghai Masters
The 2010 World Championship winner Neil Robertson has secured a place in the Last 8 of the 2011 Bank of Communication Shanghai Masters tournament, as he defeated the Hitman, Michael Holt, by a frame score of 5-2 in a best-of-nine frames Last 16 match on
Thursday, September 8, 2011.
It was not one of the best performances from the Thunder from Down Under, Neil Robertson, but still he was able to beat his English opponent comfortably. On the other hand, the 33-year-old Brit, Holt, who previously outplayed former world champion Graeme
Dott, crashed out.
It was an old-fashioned match overall except for the three frames in which Robertson knocked in breaks of 52, 53 and 90.
The 29-year-old Australian professional snooker player, Robertson, who is also the first Aussie ever to win a world championship, shared his thoughts with the media after the match. Robertson admitted it was not a strong performance from his side but on
the same note, the Australian was pretty excited upon getting a berth in the quarter-final, as this will be his first ever Last 8 match in China.
“I could have made it easier for myself by I was just about good enough to win,” said Robertson.
While speaking on his inclusion, Robertson added, “This is the first time I've got to a quarter-final in China, which is amazing as I've been coming here since 2006. I've adapted to the time difference much better than I usually do and I feel a lot better
than I have done in the past.”
Neil Robertson will not be up against the reigning world champion John Higgins who is currently ranked as the number 2 player of the world behind Mark Williams. This match is certainly going to pull a huge crowd because Higgins, a four-time Crucible winner,
who defeated Mark Davis and Stuart Bingham, is a favourite for the tournament. However let’s see if Robertson can shrug off Higgins.
Hamilton, Mark King, Shaun Murphy, Mark Selby, Mark Williams and Matthew Stevens in the meanwhile have also booked a place in the quarter-finals.
