Neil Robertson faces David Gilbert in second round of 2012 World Snooker Championship
First round encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship between the former World Snooker Championship winners, Australia’s Neil Robertson and Ireland’s Ken Doherty was totally dominated by the Aussie and he was able to hit the victory by the score line
of 10-4. Now the 2012 BGC Masters snooker tournament winner has set up his second round clash with England’s David Gilbert.
While speaking to World Snooker, Robertson said, “Any of the players that win one of the major tournaments coming in are going to be considered one of the favourites. I know David likes playing a lot of Call of Duty on the Xbox but that's about it!”
The Thunder from Down Under added, “I thought Ken made a great match of it. 10-4 was a little flattering, I was probably a little nervy in the first session yesterday but settled quite well, three centuries in a row established a pretty dominant lead.”
Gilbert has shown great determination especially after he crashed out of the professional circuit last season. However, the Englishman did not lose hope and worked hard in the 2011 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) to clinch back his pro tour ticket
for the recent snooker season. Gilbert is making his second appearance in the World Snooker Championship.
To set up his opening round meeting with compatriot Martin Gould, Gilbert had to take down four challengers in the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifying session. He put in a tremendous performance. Gilbert defeated Stuart Carrington by 10-7, Jimmy Robertson
by 10-9, Mike Dunn by 10-6 and Fergal O'Brien by 10-4 and booked his place in the televised stages of the event.
Robertson has never faced Gilbert in his professional run and feels that the encounter will be interesting to watch. Gilbert, on the other hand, is confident of taking any challenge in the mega event especially after he impressively ousted Gould in the initial
stage. He believes his game against Robertson will play an important role in improving his game and abilities. It will be exciting to see the match-up between Robertson and Gilbert at the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
