Neil Robertson happy for event return: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open – Snooker Update
With classy snooker display, the former World Snooker Championship winner, Australia’s Neil Robertson was able to win his first round clash against England’s Nigel Bond by the score line of 5-1 at the Bendigo Stadium arena in the city of Victoria, Australia.
The snooker fans welcomed all the potters from around the world with open arms and even the players were happy to be back in Australia.
Last year when the snooker governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) announced the launch of a major ranking snooker event in Australia, all top guns of snooker including the critics appreciated the initiation of snooker
in Australia.
This initiative was another step towards the promotion of the game across the world which was taken by World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn in order to gain acceptance for the game in other continents. The Aussie potter really appreciated the success of first
edition of the event and now the return of the contest also gives him pleasure.
While speaking to World Snooker after his match, Robertson said, “The fact that seven out of the top sixteen players haven't entered the tournament, I don't think it changes it too much. The two most important players in the event are myself and Ding Junhui,
and obviously the likes of Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy who are fantastic ambassadors for the sport.”
The Thunder from Down Under added, “Obviously any tournament that doesn't have Ronnie O'Sullivan in it is a bit of a miss but he declared at the end of the World Championship that he was going to take six months off anyway.”
The winner of the 2012 Masters snooker tournament fired some tremendous snooker breaks of 135, 81, 92 and 113 to ensure his dominance over the match and his opponent. Robertson has now cruised himself into the second round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields
Open snooker event where he will meet the winner of the first round clash between Mark Davis and Jack Lisowski. The competitions will be getting more thrilling with each passing day.
It will be interesting to see how far Robertson can carry his winning momentum forward in the tournament.
