Neil Robertson has no problems with World Champion tag
Neil Robertson believes that he has answered his critics and proven that he can handle the pressure of being the World Champion and the number one ranked snooker player in the world
Robertson defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final of the World Open in Glasgow at the start of the season.
The Australian World Champion believes that his start to the season is proof that he is not going to give up his world number one ranking easily.
Speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Robertson said, "I couldn't have got a better start. I've answered any questions that were asked of me in terms of whether or not I could withstand the pressure of being world champion."
Robertson retained the World Open title with a 5-1 victory over O’Sullivan and the Australian admitted he was pleased with his performance throughout the tournament. "To come out in the first BBC [televised] tournament of the season and beat Ronnie O'Sullivan
in the final is fantastic," he said.
The Australian defeated Graeme Dott 18-13 to win his first World Championship in May and since the start of the new season, he has knocked John Higgins off the number one spot in the rankings.
The player is now turning his attention to the UK Championship, which takes place on 4 December.
In contrast to Robertson’s fantastic season, his playing partner Joe Perry has struggled this season.
Perry dropped from 12th in the rankings to 28th last season and has failed to rediscover the form that saw him reach a provisional number four ranking.
Robertson was adamant that Perry would find his form again and said, "It was only a year and a half ago he was provisionally four or five in the world. I think it's just confidence, and once he starts winning a few matches I'm sure he'll climb back up the
rankings."
