Neil Robertson hopes to upset Ronnie O’Sullivan
World number one Neil Robertson conceded that he is more than happy to be the underdog as he prepares for Saturday’s Premier League semi-final match with the three-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan.
The tournament reaches its climax in Norfolk this weekend and Robertson reached the semi final after coming through the league format with a 4-2 win over Shaun Murphy.
The 28-year-old Australian admitted that O’Sullivan should go into the match as favourite. “This is his home turf if you like. He's such a master of this format. I'm coming into it perhaps as an underdog, but I had a new lease of life by beating Shaun,"
Robertson told BBC Radio Norfolk.
The current World Champion stated that his ranking and world title had given him confidence, but the player was quick to insist that he was happy going into the match as the outsider. "I don't really look at it and think 'hey, I'm number one, look at me,
I'm so great'. I've never really looked at it like that, but it gives me a lot of confidence knowing I've been a consistent tournament winner the last couple of years,” said Robertson.
O’Sullivan will be the favourite going into the semi-final as he has dominated the Premier League competition for the last decade.
The Rocket has won seven out of the last 10 tournaments and he will expect to take another Premier League title.
Robertson admitted that he would have to be at his best if he was to beat O’Sullivan and the player hoped that he could get rid of a cold that has affected him before the match takes place. "I've been having good practice the last few days, I've got a bit
of a cold at the minute, hopefully I can shake that off before the weekend," he said.
